Catherine Ford was born in Bloomsbury, London; her father had left her family and she was taken care of by her mother, grandma and godparents. When she was a girl, Ford was battling anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder caused through word-related associations. Ford began performing in her teen years and joined an actor in the National Youth Theatre. She had been accepted to Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after a short period of weeks, she realized this school wasn't for her. Ford returned to Central School of Speech and Drama and on her fourth attempt, she was finally accepted. Shaun Dingwall would play Pete Tyler who is a character that was recurring on Doctor Who. Ford's television debut was in the 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the time she graduated, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate began her TV debut in 1991, appearing on shows like The Bill. Men Behaving Badly. and London's Burning. Tate's regular involvement in the theatre brought her into the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. But Tate quickly began gaining notice for her stand-up comedy and added stand-up comedy to her resume in the year 1996.
